This accolade acknowledges the practice’s collaborative development on The Royal Star & Garter home in High Wycombe. Founded in 1916 to care for the severely injured young men returning from the battlegrounds of the first world war, Royal Star & Garter is a charity providing compassionate care to UK veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia. This home has both nursing and dementia wings with several lounges throughout the home with electric fireplaces, comfortable furniture in varying sizes and shelving for changing displays, games and general storage.  The three dementia-specific Lounges have strong colour palates in keeping with Meaningful Care Matters guidelines and these layouts provide smaller, intimate spaces in which vulnerable residents feel cosy and safe.  There are many loose items with which they can interact and simple themes such as music, food and family are evident throughout.
