Boutique hotels put a lot of care and attention into the type and quality of toiletries on offer to guests and how they are displayed.  It’s useful to get feedback from housekeeping as to how and even where these items are to be found when servicing the room.  If they’ve moved your items onto the floor or cistern it’s time for a re-design!

Even with dressing tables guests expect a place for wash bag and their own toiletries and that small area either side of the taps is not sufficient. For traditionally designed hotels pedestal basins can sometimes be cut into a shallow boxing.  If creating a tiled box from basin height to the floor you might also consider an extra shelf or two for loo rolls or flannels.  These should be clearly visible to prevent guests from leaving personal belongings behind on departure.
